Vellore: “They have been charging 20 to 30% commission to exchange 1,000 denomination currencies. Several TNSTC employees in Vellore and neighboring districts have been making money by exchanging the lesser denomination notes for the scrapped currencies,” said the source.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the duo earned 2.50 lakh as commission. A senior officer of the corporation admitted that the two staff members indulged in illegal practices and told that a detailed inquiry had been ordered into it.
He said the department was monitoring the cash transaction of other depots.
