Commuters travelling in KSRTC fast passenger services to the city from outside can now rejoice as the corporation has included ‘Vytilla’ as a farestage, a long pending demand that would mean lesser charge for travelling short distances.
As per the new order circulated to Ernakulam and nearby depots, Vytilla will be a farestage for the buses plying on the Ernakulam-Tripunithura section. Similarly, for buses coming from Aroor, the farestage stops will be Kumbalam-Vytilla-Pipeline instead of the earlier Kumbalam-Kundanoor-Pipeline.
“Commuters boarding or alighting at Vytilla will be benefited the most as they have to pay Rs 4 less. For instance, when a person had to dole out Rs 14 to
travel from the Ernakulam depot to any other place before reaching Tripunithura, he will now have to give only Rs 10 up to Vytilla. Similarly, if a person boards from Muvattupuzha and steps out at Vytilla, he/she has to pay only Rs 33 instead of the earlier Rs 36,” said Assistant Transport Officer (Ernakulam) Madana Mohanan.
Similarly, commuters from Cherthala side and alighting at Vytilla can save Rs 3. The decision has already come into force.
“Those from Aluva, alighting at Edapally too need to pay less as the farestage ‘Pipeline’ has been replaced by Edapally Jn. However, the most beneficial would be short distance travellers like those from Vytilla to Jose Jn or from Valanjambalam to Vytilla,” the officer said.
