What is the monthly salary of a police officer in India?

A lot has changed in terms of Police officers salary after the validation of 7th pay commission. There has been almost double increment in salaries of some Police officer ranks after seventh pay commission. This post contains all the 7 Indian police ranks and salary associated with those ranks.

As you must have noticed that overall there are 7 ranks in Indian police. However, designation assigned for these ranks varies from state to state. For reference this post will contain general assigned designation and will also mention equivalent position in Delhi police.

Monthly Salary of a police officer in India

1.Salary of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)

In Delhi Police, DSP is referred to as Assistant Commissioner of Police. After 7th pay commission, DSP withdraws a salary of INR 56,100 after all the incentives are included. DSP falls in the grade pay of 5400 payband. This rank is the starting rank for a IPS officer.

2. Salary of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP)

ASP, also referred to as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) if posted in Delhi Police. This Indian Police rank is achieved by getting very first promotion. Salary of ASP or ADCP is 67,700 INR after including all the incentives. ASP falls in the payband of 6,600 INR.

3. Salary of Senior Superintendent of police (SSP)

In Delhi Police, SSP is referred to as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). Salary of SSP is 78,800 INR after including all the additional benefits. This rank is third rank allotted to IPS officer. SSP falls in the payband of 8,700 INR.

4. Salary of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)

This is the 4th rank allotted to an IPS officer. It is during this rank, that you will see the actual increment in your salary and will reap benefits of hard work done at previous three ranks. Salary of DIG is 1,31,100 INR after all the benefits. DIG in Delhi Police is referred to as ACP (Additional commissioner of Police).

5. Salary of Inspector General of Police (IG)

IG in Delhi Police is referred by the rank of Joint commissioner of Police. Salary drawn by IG is 1,44,200 INR. Payband for the post of IG is 10,00o INR payband. This is the third top most rank achievable by an IPS officer.

6. Salary of Director General of Police (DG)

This is the second top most rank achievable by an IPS officer. DG is referred to as Special Commissioner of Police (SC) in Delhi state. Salary of DG is 2,05,400 INR and payband is 12,000 INR.

7. Salary of Director general of Police( DG)

Now, please dont be confused as this rank is similar to second top most rank in Indian police. However, in Delhi Police this is referred to as Commissioner of Police. Only change in this ranks is salary, which is 2,25,000. This is the highest salary which will be drawn out by any Indian Police officer.

8. IPS Officer Salary

The total emoluments of an IPS officer was become very lucrative after the sixth pay commission came into effect in 2008. An entry level officer or IPS probationer gets approximately 70,703 INR per month by January 2016. ASPs, SPs, and ACPs draw a salary of roughly 1,09,203 INR per month.
