Why does Karnataka have NWKRTC & NEKRTC in addition to KSRTC?
KSRTC was started in the year 1961 by Karnataka government to cater the needs of the growing population in providing efficient transport system.
Earlier the fleets of buses which were under KSRTC were less so was population hence it could operate efficiently. As population explosion happened it wasnt sufficient enough to control transport system in whole of Karnataka.
Since the head quarters was in Bengaluru , the best choice was to make an subordinate corporation which could pay heed to North Karnataka transport issues.
On similar lines North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) was formed to cater to the transportation needs of North Western parts of Karnataka. it ran bus service routes to towns and cities within the North-Western part of Karnataka and adjoining states of Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Later, the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) was also formed with its corporate office in Gulbarga.
So NWKRTC & NEKRTC are the small transport corporations which are guided and run along with the help of parent organization KSRTC.
