Why overtaking from the left is so dangerous? Watch this..
On single-lane roads, you must stay as close as practical to the left side of the road. Drivers are allowed to overtake on the left on all multi-lane roads. You can only overtake another vehicle if you have a clear view of any approaching traffic and you can do so safely. Make sure all road markings and signs allow you to overtake.
The video below shows one such case that could have gotten the driver into a lot of trouble.
As seen in the video, a car is being driven on a nearly empty stretch of highway. It has been equipped with a dash cam which is recording the whole episode which is about to unfold. Going by the dash cam footage, the car seems to be the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, as is written in the bottom black margin of the recording. Some time later, a large truck is seen slowing much ahead of the car. Seeing this, the driver slows down a bit and moves to the left lane in a bid to overtake the truck.
You can only overtake to the left of a vehicle if it is safe to do so and: 1. You are driving on a multi-lane road and the vehicle can be overtaken in a marked lane to the left of the vehicle. 2. The vehicle is turning right or making a U-turn from the center of the road and is indicating right. 3. The vehicle is stationary, 4. You are lane filtering on a motorcycle.
